InMotion Hosting is a run-of-the-mill web hosting service in every sense of the word; the service proves to be nothing more than average when it comes to hosting packages, features and support options. Whether you want to host a personal webpage or business website, InMotion Hosting will get the job done, but don’t expect fancy features or premium support along the way.
InMotion Hosting clearly isn’t short on hosting options; the service provides no less than six different hosting packages, including both personal and business plans. The packages vary greatly in terms of functionality, with the entry-level personal plans offering little more than sparse disk space and bandwidth allotments. We were disappointed to find that only the service’s pricey business plans include unlimited hosting, with infinite disk space, bandwidth and domains. We did like that the web hosting service gives you the choice between Linux and Windows hosting. While this won’t make a difference to most users, those well-versed in web hosting will appreciate the flexibility this affords.
When it comes to features, InMotion Hosting provides most of the features we sought. However, not all of them come with all of the hosting packages; and the more features you want, the more you will have to pay. For instance, the web hosting service provides SSL certificates, shopping carts and customizable error pages, but you’ll have to opt for one of its higher-priced plans. Each plan does come with a control panel and website builder. If you already have a website, InMotion Hosting provides one free site transfer.
One area the web hosting service is vague in what it offers is email features. InMotion Hosting provides POP3, IMAP, SMTP, and Webmail, but the service doesn’t list how many addresses or how much storage space you get with each plan. Email forwarding, aliases, catch-all accounts, autoresponders and spam protection are standard with InMotion’s most basic package.
InMotion Hosting’s ease of use is about as mediocre as the rest of the service. It’s not the most difficult web hosting service we came across, but it isn’t the easiest either. Although not very steep, there is a learning curve present. And if this is your first time using a web hosting service, expect to spend at least a few minutes familiarizing yourself with how the service works.
Help and support is definitely the area where InMotion Hosting shines the most. The web hosting provider offers unrestricted 24/7 phone, email and chat support. Other available resources include video tutorials, FAQs, a knowledgebase and user forums where you can ask questions and provide feedback about the service with other InMotion users.
Give it a try
If you aren’t particular about your web host, you may consider giving InMotion Hosting a try. The service is far from the best on the market, but it accomplishes its primary function well and you will have access to all of the features you need – just be prepared to pay for them.
